Description

A teapot made to illustrate a story of mine about the moon (the wolf) and sun (the bird), for my novel, Legends of Cael:

“Do you remember the story that mother used to tell us? About the sun and moon?” Kai asked, shifting his position in the grass so that he lay on his back. His eyes scanned the starry sky.
"Tell me again,” Chaeli said.
Kai gave a small smile, and then closed his eyes, as if visualizing the story inside his head. His words were soft and passionate as he spoke. “Back before the first human beings lived on Cael, only the animal people were around, and it was always night time. The only light came from the bright little balls in the sky. The animal people would dance and pray for the stars to shine brighter, but it no matter how hard they tried, the stars light stayed the same.
“Among the animals, there was one special hawk with feathers that were made of unfathomably white light. Every day she would fly up into the air paint pictures in the dark sky with the light that trailed from her plumage. All of the other animals would gather to watch as Hawk swam through the air, performing magnificent tricks and lighting the earth for a brief time.
“Now, there was also a lonely wolf whose pelt was blacker than the night. Wolf envied Hawk’s glowing plumage and all of the attention she was given by the rest of the creatures. While Hawk was revered and cherished for her beautiful feathers, Wolf simply blended into the dark surroundings and remained unnoticed.
“One night, Wolf decided to sneak into Hawk’s nest and steal some of her precious feathers while she slept. That way, he too, would be noticed and praised by the others. So, he carefully climbed up Hawk’s tree until he reached her nest. He looked over the sleeping bird before grabbing a mouthful of feathers and fleeing lest he be caught. When Wolf returned to his den, he carefully placed the glowing plumage into his fur, laughing to himself about how clever he was.
“When Hawk awoke, she found that almost all of her tail was missing. This made her very angry. She flew down from her nest to find out who had stolen her tail. She found the other animals out in a meadow gathered around something else that was glowing much like she. When she flew in closer, she found Wolf sitting happily in the center of the crowd, showing off her feathers. Hawk was so furious that she screeched and flew around wildly around—so wildly, in fact, that the entire sky lit up in her rage. This time though, the sky stayed bright, illuminating the world. All of the animals looked around, squinting, their eyes not used to such light all around.
“Hawk soon decided to get revenge. She swooped down and plucked out one of Wolf’s eyes. She was so quick, Wolf did not know what hit him until he saw her flying off with his eye in her talons. Frantic, Wolf began to chase her all around the land. She flew, and he ran so far, that eventually they encircled the whole earth. Even then, they did not stop. Hawk supposed that if she flew fast enough, she’d be able to come full circle, and sneak up behind Wolf to steal back her feathers.
“Wolf and Hawk are still chasing each other around today. When Hawk passes over us, her feathers glow so bright that you can’t look at her without hurting your eyes. She lights up the earth and brings us the day time. And when Wolf passes over us, fur as dark as death, that’s when the night comes. Wolf only glows faintly because he has only a few of Hawk’s feathers in his fur.” Kai paused for a long moment. He then chuckled and said, “I can’t believe you forgot that story.”
“I didn’t. I just wanted to hear you tell it,” Chaeli said, giving a toothy grin.

nooo i like wolves lol doesn't he know stealing is bad. and if you have time can you answer why the griffin took his eye, i mean feather will eventually grow bake but an eye will always be lost. even for revenge that sounds a little harsh to me.
